Phil Hellmuth was born on July 16, 1964 in Madison, Wisconsin. He has won more World Series of Poker events that any other player and is well known for his bizarre behavior at the tables. He grew up loving poker and was set on becoming a pro at an early age. His first big break came in 1989 when he won the main event at the WSOP for a $755,000 payday. This is the first of 11 bracelet wins Phil has won over the next 19 years. His next win came in 92" when he won a limit Hold'em event.

The very next year he won a record setting three WSOP bracelets. He nearly won a fourth but had to settle for a second place win in the Triple Draw event. The next couple years were pretty quiet for Phil, he made two final tables but didn't win any bracelets. In 97" he won his 6th bracelet in the pot limit Hold'em tournament. In 1998 he won the L.A. Poker Classic though at this time the 1st place prize was only $50,000. Over the next few years he won quite a few smaller tournaments but didn't win another major tournament until 2000 when he won $161,920 in the Poker EM limit 7 card stud event.
2001 saw Phil take home another WSOP bracelet when he won $316,550 in the No Limit Hold'em tournament. In this year alone he won a total of $500,000 for finishing "in the money" at wide variety of tournaments. In 2002 Phil won $230,000 which is pretty impressive considering he didn't win a single tournament. Phil had a very good year in 03" with two more WSOP bracelet wins. He won over $1,100,000 for all his tournament money finishes that year.
His next major win was the 2005 National Heads-Up Poker Championship. He won $500,000 for beating all the competition out and proclaimed himself the best heads-up player in the history of poker. He won a WSOP event each year in 06" and 07" giving him a total of 11 bracelets. He currently holds the record for most bracelets won and is in the Poker Hall of Fame. An interesting side note about the 2007 WSOP is that Phil was supposed to drive a race car to the main event but crashed while practicing in a parking lot. He wasn't injured and some have speculated that it was a publicity stunt.
What's He Like?
Phil has a very distinct personality at the tables. He's well known for being a big mouth and will often be seen throwing fits when he loses a hand, many call him the "cry baby" of professional poker. Off the table not much is known but we can assume he throws his temper tantrums in real life as well.
What's he doing now?
Phil currently lives in Palo Alto, California with his wife and children. He is sponsored by Ultimate Bet poker and can be found regularly playing in the large tournaments they host. He is still very active in cash games and plays in most of the major events. Phil Is also a spokesman for Ultimate Bet bonus code where he plays online poker.
