Doyle Brunson was born in 1933 in the tiny Texas town of Longworth. He was a very promising runner and basketball player until he broke his leg in two places while working at a summer job. He went on to college to earn a master's degree in administrative education. In 1956 he got a job as a sales man and was soon invited to a company card game. After seeing that it was easier to make money playing poker than working he soon left the company and started a gambling career that would span 5 decades. Most likely the greatest poker player of all time.

During the end of the 50's and all through the 60's Doyle played in illegal "backroom" poker games that were usually controlled by the mob. Around this time another player at a table Doyle was playing at misread his name tag "Texas Doyle" and called him "Texas Dolly", he has been called that ever since. The 70's were a very good decade for Doyle. In 1970 the first World Series of Poker was hosted at Binion's Horseshoe Casino. In 1976 Doyle won the main event for a 1st place prize of $230,000. Doyle made history in 1977 by winning the main event yet again. He also won bracelets for 1st place finishes in the Triple Draw and 7 Card Stud Hi-Lo tournaments.
Doyle went on to win two more WSOP bracelets in 78 and 79. He also published his famous book the "Super/System". This book is considered by many as the bible of poker. During the 80's Doyle continued to play poker but also spent a lot of time at the golf course. He liked to make extremely large wagers on just about any sport.
In the 90's Doyle make his comeback to the WSOP scene and won two more bracelets. Then in 2003 he won his 9th bracelet in the $2,000 H.O.R.S.E event. In 2004 he won the Legends of Poker tournament taking home nearly $1,200,000. In that year he also released "Super/System 2", an updated version of his earlier book. His last major WSOP win came in 2005 when he won the $5,000 Shorthanded no limit Texas Hold'em tournament. This win gave him a record setting 10 WSOP bracelets.
