In 1974 Daniel was born in Toronto, Canada. In 1992 he dropped out of high school after having some trouble his senor year. Over the next few years he started playing poker at Toronto’s charity casinos and was soon earning a decent living from poker. When he turned 21 he headed to Las Vegas feeling invincible and was sent home without a dollar in his pocket. He wasn't ready to give up yet though, he went back to the charity casinos and grinded it out until he built his bankroll up. Then is 1997 he won two events at the World Poker Finals at Foxwoods earning over $130,000. This marks the start of a 10 year run of great achievements and almost $10,000,000 in tournament wins.

The next couple years were very good to Daniel Negreanu, also known as “Kid Poker” by this time. He won a WSOP bracelet for pot limit Hold'em in 1998 and in 1999 won the United States Poker Championship. He had some good finishes the next 3 years but didn't win any major tournaments. In 2003 he won yet another bracelet at the WSOP in the $2,000 S.H.O.E tournament which put over $100,000 in his pocket. That year he also won $280,000 for making the final table in a couple of other large tournaments.
2004 was a very busy year for Daniel. He won nearly $200,000 for a 3rd place finish in the Poker Stars Caribbean Adventure tournament and another $675,000 for coming in 2nd in the third Party Poker Millions event. He also won his 3rd WSOP bracelet in the $2,000 fixed limit Texas Hold'em event. In 2004 the Plaza hosted a $10,000 buy-in no limit Hold'em tournament. Daniel beat out the 67 other players for a $300,000 1st place finish.
Those wins pale in comparison to Daniel’s achievements at the 2004 Borgata Poker Open and the 2nd annual Five Diamond World Poker Classic. He finished first in both tournaments for a combined win of more than $2,800,000. Daniel was on top of the world after winning these prestigious tournaments. Even before winning them he was already recognized as one of the best poker players in the world. From 2005 to 2007 Daniel won around $2,700,000 in various tournaments.
What’s He Like?
Daniel is one of the most likeable professional poker players in the world. He loves to talk and have a good time at the tables. He is famous for his ability to call the other player’s cards with mind boggling accuracy. It is hard to find such a good natured player, even when he loses he takes it with a smile.
What’s he doing now?
Like most pro players Daniel is living in Las Vegas. He has recently joined Team Poker Stars and can be regularly found at the tables there. He has passed up a few tournaments this year but has stated that he just needed a little break due to some problems at home. In November of 2007 he announced that he and his wife Lori are separating. He plans on winning the WSOP main event in years to come. Daniel is also sponsored by Full Tilt Poker. He can be seen at the tables online playing medium to high stakes games such as texas holdem and omaha.
