Mix equal parts of both vodka and Tia Maria or Kahlua with ice in a glass. Add cola for an added flavor. But this is optional.

Proportions of the classic black russion vary to taste. Some mix 2 parts vodka and 1 part Tia Maria with no mixer (cola). Many bartenders prefer or rather insist on Kahlua rather than Tia Maria. Try it with out cola first. See also White Russian which is almost the same recipe but with whipping cream and is shaken instead of stirred.
