Thanksgiving Holiday Mixed Drinks and Cocktails

Thanksgiving is one of the largest family gatherings of all the traditional holidays. Families and friends gather for a reunion, a day of thanks, and a festive meals. Thanksgiving meals are traditionally family events where certain kinds of food are served. One often forgotten part of the traditional thanksgiving holiday is the drinks served for the occasion. The drinks are as much part of the holiday if not more(if you have relatives you cant stand to be around). The standard drinks that are present at the table include a punch, wine , champagne and beer. We would like to go beyond the standard Thanksgiving day drinks and move into the fun theme drinks and many other Thanksgiving Mixed Drinks that can be serve at your table, gathering, party or even for the football game.

Thanksgiving Day Drinks

The first thing to do is decide how many guests you will be serving. Then decide what will be served on the drink menu. Once the drink menu is pretty well planned out. You need to prepare you bar to make sure you have all ingredients on hand. Including the proper bar glassware and serving platters.

In keeping with the holiday theme lets look at few great thanksgiving holiday drink recipes:

Thanksgiving Special
3/4 oz Apricot brandy
3/4 oz Dry Vermouth
3/4 oz Gin
1/4 tsp Lemon juice
Shake ingredients in ice filled shaker. Strain into glass. Garnish with a cherry.
Serve in a : Cocktail Glass

Apple Pie Punch
2 cups apple juice or cider
4 ounces spiced rum
2 ounces cinnamon Schnapps
1 red apple, sliced
Pour all liquid ingredients into punch bowl. Stir and add ice. Then garish with thin slices of a red apple. For an added garnish touch. Float 3-4 Apple wafer thin wheels (thin round slices).
Serve in a : Punch Bowl

Cranberry Hot Toddy
4 tangerines
3 quarts unsweetened cranberry juice
1/2 cup whole cloves
1 cups sugar, or to taste
3 cups amber rum
Remove the seed from slicing all the tangerines into wheels (rounds). Insert 4-5 cloves into the tangerines wheels. Simmer in large pan cranberry juice, tangerine rounds, and added sugar, covered, 5 minutes then stir in rum. Serves 4-5 guests.
Serve in a : Irish Coffee Mug

Cranberry Margaritas
1 1/4 cup cranberry juice
1/2 cup sugar
1 1/2 cup fresh frozen cranberries
3/4 cup fresh-squeezed lime juice
3/4 cup tequila
1/2 cup Grand Marnier
Mix all ingredients together in a pitcher, add 1/2 of mix to blender then add ice and blend until a smooth consistency. Repeat with the other 1/2 of the mix.

Wild Apple Turkey
2 parts apple cider
1 part wild turkey bourbon
Mix ingredients together. Add ice and serve.

Turkey Feather
1/4 oz Amaretto
2 oz Bourbon
1/2 oz Drambuie
Pour all ingredients into glass with ice and garnish with 1-2 mint leaves.

Harvest Moon
6 oz Apple Cider
2 oz Rye Whiskey
Fill glass with ice. Add cider then whiskey. Garnish with a slice of apple and a cinnamon stick.

Burnt Turkey
1/2 oz Bourbon
1/2 oz Cinnamon Schnapps
Add ice to glass, pour both ingredients. Stir and garnish with 1-2 mints Leafs.

Thanksgiving Cocktail
1 1/2 oz Wild Turkey whiskey
1/2 oz Applejack brandy
1 tsp lime juice
4 oz cranberry juice
Fill glass 1/2 full with ice and the add all ingredients. Stir and garnish with an optional lime wedge.

Smashing Pumpkin Martini
3 ounces Infused Spiced Pumpkin Vodka
1 oz Amaretto
Shake ingredients in partially ice filled shaker. Strain into chilled glass. Then garnish (float)toasted pumpkin seeds.

Champagne Cocktails

These are just of few of the fun thanksgiving drinks that are themed with great names. Other great holiday mixed drinks can be served as well. Lets now take a look a few on the non traditional list of champagne cocktails.

Champagne Cocktail
1 Sugar cube
2 dashes angostura bitters
1 tsp cognac
Add the sugar into glass , then add the bitters. Swirl the sugar until dissolved or at least soaked. Pour the brandy. Top off with a freshly opened bottle of your champagne of choice. Don't use your best champagne for these drinks , the best of champagnes should never be mixed.

Pomegranate Cocktail
1 teaspoon fresh pomegranate arils
4 ounces Champagne
1/2 teaspoon pomegranate juice
1 teaspoon cassis
Add pomegranate arils (seeds) into champagne flute. Pour champagne into flute and then add the last 2 ingredients, 1/2 teaspoon pomegranate juice (fresh if possible) then assessorial note: Pomegranate juice and the fruit is notorious for stains.

Ciroc Champagne Cosmo
1oz Ciroc Vodka
1.5 oz cranberry juice
dash of Grand Marnier
1/2 oz fresh lime juice
1 twist of orange
1oz champagne
Shake with ice filled shaker the vodka, cranberry juice, grand marnier and lime juice. Strain into chilled glass and top off with champagne. Garnish with an orange twist.

Other Favorite Thanksgiving Day Holiday Mixed Drinks

Gin and Tonic
2 oz gin
5 oz tonic water
1 lime wedge
Fill glass with ice if preferred and gin and then fill the glass with tonic water. Garnish with a lime wedge. Ice is optional.

Sidecar 2
3/4 oz triple sec
1/2 oz cognac
3/4 oz lemon juice
Shake ingredients with ice and strain into a chilled glass. Garnish Lemon twist. (Peel)

Lemon Drop Martini
6 parts lemon flavored vodka
1 part dry vermouth
granulated sugar
lemon twist
Rim a chilled cocktail glass with granulated sugar. Combine liquid ingredients in a ice filled shaker and shake well. Strain into glass and garnish with a lemon twist.
