If you are as busy as we are here at Mixed Drink World you will soon find out that your desk can and will become consumed with a yellow plague of post it notes. They start off as this nice little reminder that you have something to do or something to remember. But not shortly after you buy a new package of them do you realize you have become addicted to the little sticky beasts. They are everywhere around every edge of all 3 monitors stacked up together like a stack of information that will never end. When do you toss the little guys out? When do you make room for the new ones?
We have decided to look at a electronic alternatives for our note taking and try to reduce the need for the sticky yellow squares.
We have read many reviews and recommendations about Google Notebook software (no they did not release a new laptop) and have decided to give it a test run.
Basically the program in an online software based application that allows the user to keep notes in an organized way with folders and sub folders(called notebooks). You access the application thru either your online google account or from an icon button in your internet browser screen.
First you need to install the program. Google Notebooks overall in very easy to install. It has a browser extent icon for both Internet Explorer and Firefox which is so easy to install. You do have to have a google account but again its very easy and free to signup. Once installed click the little icon in your browser if you installed the extention to begin making a note or login to your google notebook account. See Illustration below for an example of the icon.

You can create tons of folders they call notebooks, and then sub folders like "things to do", you can keep a list of all the things you need to do that day etc. We at Mixed Drink World have many notebooks with mixed drink recipe ideas and notes on new drinks to publish. One of the big advantages is you can access these notes anywhere in the world. This is amazingly handy if you are like us and when you need the note now you need it now. Their is an issue with the note program that we hope that they will integrate. We wish you could set some kind of reminder and calender for notes. So you would be prompted if needed for important notes. The Post-It digital program offers this but you cant access the notes from any computer you are stuck to the one you downloaded it too. For this reason alone it makes the Google Notebook worth giving a try. Another great feature is you can share your notes with other users and allow them to add to your original notebook.
One of the big concerns was are your notebooks private? Google says that they are, as long as you don't publish them to the net or share them with friends of coarse. If you are ultra concerned we urge you to read their Privacy Policy.
We could go on and on but you get the idea. Give it a try its not a bad little application.
