How To Clean Your LCD or Plasma Screen

Written by bartender on November 26th, 2007

If your screen has become dust layered like almost all electronic gadgets do you will need to clean them sometime soon. Often many consumers use the common household cleaner called windex or other glass cleaners which contain ammonia. We are here to remind you don't use windex or any other window cleaning product. They can degrade your screen. and can either scratch and or leave a hazy residue on your lcd or plasma screen.

Fill a basic plastic pray bottle with a mix equal parts 50/50, filtered water or bottled water and isopropyl alcohol (also isopropanol, iso, rubbing alcohol, or the abbreviation IPA). Do not use tap water, doing so will leave smears on your screen after cleaning because of the dissolved minerals in the water.

Then lightly mist a very soft nonabrasive cloth, like a micro fiber dust cloth or a cotton t-shirt. Do Not Use Paper Towels they can and may scratch your lcd, plasma, cell phone and many other screens. Also don't use tissue paper they leave flakes of paper behind. When wiping the screen try to always use a clean part of the cloth and minimize as much large dust build up on the cloth as possible. Be very gentle and never put even the slightest pressure on the computer screen with your hand.
