Audi’s new 2008 R8 has just been unveiled. It is their first mid-engine sports car. It uses the mid-engine platform from the Lamborghini Gallardo. With 420 hp from a V8 Engine and all-wheel drive. It’s supposed to be real fast. They claim its 0-60 mph time is 4.6 seconds. We would think it’s a little faster than that considering it not out yet. The car features a 4.2 liter engine with peak torque at 430 from 4,500-6000 rpm. Maximum engine speed is 8,250. The engine sits inside a forged aluminum chassis. The Audi R8 has many other features like double wishbones at the front and rear. Some other really nice features included Xenon lights, led rear lights and daytime running lights. 18inch aluminum wheels and a 465 watt stereo system with 12 speakers. This car has beautiful lines and extremely fast look.
The craftsmen are taking a whole new approach to the assembly. They are working is smaller teams of specialist and each small team is responsible for accomplishing their part in the production. They can only produce 15 cars a day but for hefty price tag of somewhere between $80,000 and $110,000 it must be worth it.

The interior has been trimmed with every detail. Carbon fiber is everywhere. Sport seats, racing pedal, navigation option. Alternatively, the R8 can also be fitted with bucket seats, specially developed by quattro GmbH. You can even store two sets of golf clubs and bags. Luggage compartment in the front is only 100 liters. But who cares, this is a driving car not a moving van. We like it a lot. Just might need to park the Porsche 911 turbo….. mmmm….na. We’ll need to drive it before we start talking crazy like that.
